Insurance… it is just one of those things that even the word “Insurance” brings a bunch of different emotions.  I understand that I should be grateful for insurance.  After 7 years of fighting a brain tumor, we still have money. We didn’t have to use all of our money to pay medical expenses.  On the other hand, I hate insurance.  I feel like I have to fight the system to convince them to pay.  I feel like I am trying to navigate a maze without an exit.

I fear insurance.  And now that the government is involved, I am even more afraid.  I am a rule follower, and when the rules keep changing and are unclear, I fear that I going to do something and hurt our family.

I know that God doesn’t want me to fear, in fact, He designed us lead a peaceful and quiet lives.

1 Timothy 2:2b (ESV) “that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.

Since sin has entered the world, peaceful and quiet is not what we experience.  Even then, God sent Jesus into the world to save and redeem us.  Even though we live in a fallen world, through Jesus, we can experience some of what we were designed for.  Jesus taught us to pray (Luke 11).  Prayer connects us with God, aligns our thoughts with His, and begins to change us.

Paul knew this, and that is why He said this.

1 Timothy 2:1-2a First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions,

God’s plan for a peaceful and quiet life includes “supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings.”

  • The Greek word for supplications means “asking.” In others words, taking to God.
  • The Greek word for prayer is “seeking and asking.” In other words, talking to God.
  • The Greek word for intercessions means “meeting with.” In other words, talking to God.
  • The Greek word for thanksgivings mean “giving thanks.” In other words, taking to God about why you are thankful.

When a writer repeats himself with different words, he is emphasizes the importance of the statement.  Paul was emphasis the importance of prayer in life.  The points is we can still have a peaceful life, even when we am overwhelmed by own circumstances…even insurance.  God’s peace and his other gifts are available every time we humbly come to God.  He might not take away our circumstances, but He will wants to listen and provide His peace.
